About SCP Transport

SCP is an independent Director owned, transportation planning and highway infrastructure consultancy which has been successfully delivering transport solutions to both private and public sector clients for over 25 years. Formally known as Singleton Clamp and Partners, SCP was formed in 1991. Today SCP employs almost 45 members of staff and has offices in three major UK cities, Leeds, London and Manchester. From these three offices our team provide the full range of transportation planning and highway infrastructure consultancy services to clients throughout the United Kingdom.

Our Social Values

Here at SCP we are proud to of the way we recognise our social obligations and believe we offer excellence in service at a fair price which adds value to the UK and the regions in which we work. Through our membership of CECA (Civil Engineering Contractors Association) we have used the LM3 Social Value assessment tool. This considers the value of work commissioned with SCP and calculates its reinvestment in the local economy. This calculation shows that for every £1 commissioned with SCP, there is a resulting spend of £2.60 in the local economy.

Development & Training

At SCP we are committed to the development and training of our staff. SCP actively supports the membership of professional institutions, providing employees with membership of two professional bodies each year. A number of SCP’s senior team have leadership roles within relevant Institutes, including the Skills and Strategy Panel, Chairmanship of the Yorkshire & Humberside Infrastructure Alliance and national roles on The Skills and Strategy Boards for the CIHT.

SCP currently employs 7 apprentices, making up 16% of our workforce. They are supported through training at a local college alongside receiving structured development in the workplace. SCP is also directly involved in setting up and delivering the new Transport Planning Trailblazer course at Leeds College of Building, including delivering course presentations and out of the 32 technical personnel within the company, over 27 are qualified or actively working on attaining their professional qualifications.

SCP’s team work within local schools, for example one member of staff in an engineering ambassador within his former school. Another staff member is an ambassador for the WISE campaign, this involves visiting local schools helping inspire girls to study maths, physics and computing qualifications and seek a career in engineering.

Last financial year SCP invested £26,032 in staff training and development, this included various training courses with high investment in SCP’s apprentices as well as PRINCE2 project management qualifications and other professional opportunities.


In terms of diversity SCP exceeds the industry averages at employing women. Only 10% of the engineering workforce in the UK is women, where as 27.5% of our workforce are women. 6% of registered engineers and technicians in UK are women where as 27% of our technical staff are women (both qualified and undergoing training).

Supporting the Local Community

Here at SCP we are not only proud of our support to our clients, we are also very proud of our wider commitment to provide support to local causes and the community. In 2019 SCP co-sponsored the Yorkshire Residential Property Award hosted by Variety, the Children’s Charity. These awards not only celebrate the achievements and talents of the local residential property sectors they raise money in support of Variety, the Children’s Charity who through tangible and practical ways help disabled and disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Our staff are encouraged to support initiatives in their local community, for example a number of staff currently train or have trained community and youth football teams and one is Chair of a Neighbourhood Forum. SCP has sponsored Wetherby Ladies FC since 2015, the funding for kits and equipment has supported the development of younger female players into open age football. The team includes players of all ages and backgrounds and therefore improved society cohesion. Each year our staff enter into a friendly baking competition to raise money as part of MacMillan Cancer Support’s Coffee Morning, last year the Manchester office alone raised over £175 and our Leeds staff support animal charities and St Gemma’s hospice.

Reducing our Environmental Impact

At SCP we aim to reduce our negative environmental impact wherever possible and encourage sustainable travel when viable. We have our own company Travel Plan and our offices are based within city centres which encourages staff to travel to work by using public transport, walking or cycling. Most of our staff choose to travel by sustainable modes. SCP encourage the use of bicycles: the Leeds office relocation included cycling facilities within the search criteria and at the Manchester office SCP installed a shower to facilitate cycling, we also offer a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme. We look to locate in offices with a high BREEAM score. SCP also has a staff member volunteering at the cycling charity Sustrans and they undertake works on the Transpennine trail.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

SCP actively encourages all staff to use public transport in preference to the use of car wherever practical when travelling to sites or meetings, thereby minimising our environmental impact on local communities. SCP looks to save energy where possible within the office by turning computers and screens off at night and when not in use. We also have chosen to lease photocopiers with energy saving settings to reduce their impact when idle. Whilst most of SCP’s business is undertaken on the computer, where printing is essential we minimise waste in all offices by recycling all paper and cardboard as well as recycling printer cartridges and toners, this is to ensure we minimise our impact on landfill. SCP supports clients own environmental initiatives by providing advice on design for sustainable transport modes, through the promotion and development of Travel Plans.

Affiliations & Accreditations

SCP encourages staff to engage with the professional institutes, indeed we fund membership of up to two organisations for each staff member. Staff are encouraged to actively engage with the work of their Institutes. SCP itself is a member of CECA and Chamber of Commerce and has sponsored multiple events.

SCP has signed the Armed Forces Covenant committing to support the Armed Forces Community.

SCP’s management system is ISO 9001:2015 approved and we hold SMAS (SSIP) accreditation for both the Designer and Principal Designer roles.
