SCP Transport appoints new Director

SCP is pleased to announce that David Young has joined us as a Director to strengthen the existing team of Directors. This reflects the continued growth of the consultancy over the last 25 years.

David will be focus on growing the SCP transport planning work in particular the public sector transport offer, helping Local Authorities deliver the infrastructure essential to support sustainable economic growth. He will also enhance SCP’s public transport offer nationally to operators, the public and private sectors.

David recently left South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) where he worked for 13 years, most recently as Interim Director General and before that Director of Customer Experience. He led the operational public transport work.

David’s work included the ground breaking work to assess the Quality Contract option to improve buses in Sheffield, leading to the decision to progress with the ground breaking and award winning successful bus partnerships in Sheffield and Rotherham, partnerships which have seen improvements in customer satisfaction and significant patronage growth. 

This work has been very influential and has informed key aspects of the imminent Buses bill.

He was the driving force behind the rebuilding of Rotherham Central rail station, has led the delivery of many capital projects as well as innovative IT projects, such as the delivery of Smart ticketing in South Yorkshire and the move to digital retailing.

David started his career in the private sector, working for both a consultant and an international construction firm. Before joining SYPTE David worked for a number of Local Authorities, leading highway and transport work, major road feasibility and junction design.
