SCP appoints new Associate Director for Design in Manchester
SCP, the transport planning and infrastructure design consultancy, is pleased to announce that Kim Barnes has joined the consultancy as an Associate Director to develop the infrastructure design capabilities in their Manchester office. This reflects their commitment to provision of quality design in addition to their already well established and respected Transport Planning capabilities.
Kim has a wide range of design experience for Government and Private Consultancies. He has covered almost all aspects of highway design in his career both nationally and internationally.
In addition he has managed design teams and businesses with a keen interest in pushing the boundaries of design using the latest design techniques, not only in the design software and hardware but also in the associated aspects such as topographical surveying, design material and 3D modelling.
Having managed multi-disciplinary companies, Kim has trained many young technicians and engineers providing them with inspiration and guidance in their engineering pursuits whilst impressing on them the need to be able to make solid engineering judgements and at the same time being able to listen to the Client’s need and meet the Client’s expectations on budget and time constraints.
His international experience has varied his design aspects from estate design to large Highway design projects in all sorts of terrain and conditions, from the mountainous jungles of Papua New Guinea to 100 km projects through the Sharkiya Desert of Oman. Major Highway Schemes in England and throughout Ireland plus Estate design throughout the UK have given him the experience necessary to handle every type of design problem in highways and drainage.
Steve Carmody Director at SCP says “Kim has joined SCP bringing many years of experience on a range of infrastructure design schemes, including some significant major scheme experience within the UK and Abroad. This experience will be a great benefit to the SCP growing North West Infrastructure Design Team.”
Kim aspires to produce the best that can be achieved in design and encouraging those around him to do the same. One of his, and SCP’s, key philosophies is to “design as if you were paying for the construction yourself” which, he agrees, concentrates the designer to design in the best interest of the Client ensuring that the Client always returns for future projects.
Kim is intent on demonstrating that SCP are not just another Engineering Consultant but that they are THE Engineering Consultant if you want quality design and optimum savings in construction.
